Suspected motorbike thief burnt to death as police watch
Angry members of the public on Monday burnt a suspected motorbike thief in Bamburi, Mombasa County.
The suspect was cornered by the public and the set him ablaze right in the middle of the road.
Police arrived at the scene moments after the public had set the man ablaze but refrained from rescuing him because the crowd threatened to set the police car ablaze if they attempted to save the suspect.
Bodaboda operators have recently resorted to burning suspected motorbike thieves. Early this month, a suspected motorbike thief was burnt to death in Kasarani, Nairobi.
In the incident, the operators said they resorted to mob justice because the suspects are usually bailed out and they pose a security risk as the trial proceeds in court
