Suspected carjacker shot dead in Umoja during botched robbery

A suspected carjacker was on Friday night shot and killed by police officers in Nairobi’s Umoja estate following a botched robbery.

According to the police, the suspect was tracked from Mlolongo after the owner of the stolen vehicle reported the theft at Mlolongo police station.

Police tracked the vehicle to the Deliverance Church area in Umoja.

Police said they ordered the sole occupant of the vehicle to surrender but he declined and instead shot at them.

Thereafter a shootout ensued during which the suspect was fatally wounded.

Police recovered a Berretta pistol with rounds of ammunition, four mobile phones, a claw hammer and pliers inside the car.

The body of the slain suspected was later taken to the City Mortuary.
