Suspected boda boda gangsters gunned down

Police in Kasarani gunned down three suspected robbers on a boda boda and recovered two loaded firearms on Friday evening.

A police officer attached to the Special Crime Prevention Unit was also injured during the 4pm shootout with the suspects.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi said police who had information that the suspects were on a robbery mission waylaid them along the Mwiki-Kasarani Road, but the suspects started shooting at the officers.

“The officers returned fire and all of the suspects were fatally injured. They recovered two pistols; a Ceska and a Beretta loaded with eight bullets in total,” Mr Mboloi said.

The officer said that a motorbike that the three were using was recovered. The bodies of the suspects were taken to the City Funeral Home.

SCENE OF CRIME

The officer who sustained bullet wounds on the thigh is receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi. Ballistic Detectives have collected several spent cartridges from the scene of the crime for investigations.

Nairobi County Police Commander Benson Kibue said the three suspects had been on the police radar for a long time.

“These were dangerous criminals and the fact that we have managed to find them is a great stride in the fight against crime in the city,” Mr Kibue said.

The incident came only hours after police arrested three suspects in Ngei Estate in Huruma and recovered three other pistols.

The three, according to Starehe OCPD, Benard Nyakwaka were hiding in a residential home. Police started a search for them after they received information from members of the public. Police are holding the suspects for questioning.
