Super striker Olunga speaks out on his future at Gor

Gor Mahia striker Michael ‘Engineer’ Olunga has said he would not be distracted by speculation on his future as he has a binding contact with the 14-time Kenyan Premier League champions.

Olunga, 21, has attracted attention from clubs in the region after impressive performances in the Cecafa Club Championship in Dar es Salaam, but in an interview after arriving from Tanzania, the soft-spoken striker pursuing bachelors degree in Geospatial Engineering, said that his priority is to keep working hard and help Gor claim their third consecutive league title.

“I have a contract with Gor and I don’t know much about the offers,” he said. “I just want to concentrate on our target and aim for the league.”

Olunga’s five goals in Dar helped Gor finish runners-up in the tournament, securing him the top scorers’ award.

Tanzanian clubs Simba and Azam are understood to be keen on luring the youngster from K’Ogalo but it is highly unlikely that he will ditch the Kenyan giants before the end of the current season.

As speculation persists on his future, analysts have been quick to point out that Olunga needs to be exported to a modest club in Europe to give him a firm foundation.

Since joining Gor at the beginning of this term on a one-year loan deal from Liberty Sports Academy, Olunga has so far scored 20 goals this calendar year – 12 in the domestic league, five in the Cecafa Cup and three with the national team.

Prior to linking up with Gor, Olunga played for Tusker and Thika United on loan deals.

He will be aiming at extending his goals tally when Gor resume their league campaign this weekend.
