Super League teams promoted to FKF Premier League

A majority of the promoted National Super League (NSL) clubs have confirmed they will participate in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.

This is after the Federation announced the promotion of 14 teams from the second tier league on Thursday evening, to replace a similar number of top flight teams that had opted to remain in the Kenyan Premier League.

The promoted clubs are ZOO Kericho, Agro Chemicals, West Sugar FC, Bidco United FC, Nzoia FC, Modern Coast Rangers, Kariobangi Sharks, Ligi Ndogo FC, Nairobi Stima, Oserian, Finlays, St Joseph FC, Busia United and GFE 105 FC.

These teams have replaced Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Bandari FC, Chemelil Sugar, KCB, Mathare United, Muhoroni Youth, Sofapaka, Thika United, Tusker, Ulinzi Stars, Ushuru and Western Stima which have effectively been banned from featuring in any FKF sanctioned competitions.

HIGHEST LEVEL

“This is a good opportunity for our players to feature at the highest level. We will try and prepare for the league adequately even though we have received this opportunity via shortcut,” Kariobangi Sharks trainer Mike Amenga said.

Amenga’s sentiments were echoed by ZOO Kericho FC team manager Ibrahim Muganda.

“If you remember we qualified for the Kenyan Premier League last November but someone irregularly gave our slot to another team. So am glad we have our chance again,” Muganda said.

Oserian FC coach Nick Muyoti also confirmed receiving communique of his side’s promotion to the top flight league which is slated to formally commence next week. Shabana and Kakamega Homeboyz are the other teams in this competition.

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama and his elder brother Macdonald Mariga joined the increasing choruses of professional players in criticizing the football administrators for this impasse on social media.
