The top candidate in this year’s KCPE Goldalyn Kakuya beat all odds despite her condition as an albino to emerge in the top position.

She has braved long spells of poor health due to her condition to emerge the top performer.

Teachers and parents at the St Anne’s Junior School Lubao in Kakamega county broke into song and dance after learning of her impressive performance.

Her father is a manager at West Kenya Sugar while the mother is a lecturer at Kibabi University.

They said she is hard working, a role model to other pupils and very disciplined.

She is a good public speaker. Her dream is to become a neurosurgeon or banker.

The candidate has been a top performer since she joined the school’s Early Child Development centre until she sat her KCPE exam.

The school’s head teacher Mr Mukoya Nambande said the ever cheerful girl had done the school proud.

“We knew she would score highly in KCPE because of her consistent performance. She has always topped candidates from other schools and was confident of a good performance,” said Mr Nambande.

Teachers said the girl is gifted as a dancer and a handball player.
