Stop streaming Nairobi results, Kidero tells IEBC

By DAVID MWERE August 10th, 2017 1 min read

Nairobi governorship candidate Evans Kidero now wants the electoral commission and the media to stop releasing the city county’s results until all the relevant forms have been verified by his agent.

In a protest note to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission returning officer for the county, Mr Cavince Owidi, Governor Kidero’s county chief agent, noted that “the purported results relating to the Nairobi governorship elections are being released outside the law”.

“These results are being released by unauthorised persons in breach of the mandatory provisions of the Elections Act. As the chief agent, I have not participated or been consulted on the process,” Mr. Owidi said.

TRAILING SONKO

The results streaming from the IEBC portal show Dr Kidero (ODM) trailing his main challenger Mike Mbuvi Sonko (Jubilee) by over 160,000 votes.

Mr Owidi’s statement came after Dr Kidero rejected the governorship results yesterday morning terming them “a sham and does not reflect the will of the people”.

“I will not accept the results until a new physical recount of all the ballot boxes from all the polling stations in the city is done and the accompanying forms duly signed by all the agents,” Dr Kidero said.

He claimed the IEBC database has been hacked to maintain a constant gap of 11 per cent between him and Mr Sonko, the outgoing Nairobi senator, a claim that was repeated by Nairobi’s ODM senatorial candidate Mr Edwin Sifuna.

“There is obvious evidence of subversion of the will of the people. There was active interference,” Mr Sifuna said.

In the protest letter to the electoral commission, Mr Owidi is also asking to be provided with forms 34B, 37B and 37C from the county returning officer.
