The future of Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama at Tottenham Hotspur future looks increasingly uncertain after his  manager admitted he is ‘always worried’ about the player’s fitness.

Wanyama has recently struggled for game time at the London club due to niggling injuries on his left knee.

He is on the sidelines at the moment due to his latest injury and has only been able to play 98 minutes of English Premier League football this season.

He missed his club’s 4-2 defeat by Arsenal on Sunday and was also expected to miss Wednesday’s league match at home to Southampton.

“We are concerned about his situation. We must wait for when he sees the specialist and then we’ll see what happens. But of course, after some time without him involved in the training sessions and with the team, we are concerned. But now, we need to wait next week to have a more clear idea of what’s going on,” said club manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa recently explained that he does expect Wanyama to feature for the national team in the long term. Mwendwa spoke at an event graced by former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.

“My main wish would be for you to help us train the next generation of footballers,” Mwendwa told Fowler.

“The likes of (Victor) Wanyama and (Patrick) Matasi, they will not be here for long. We are now working on the next group of stars and that’s why we have a vibrant U23 national team.”

Barring another injury, Wanyama is expected to captain Stars at the 2019 Africa Nations Cup in June.
