Volleyball team misses out on meeting First Lady

The Kenyan national women’s volleyball team players are disappointed that they won’t have a chance to meet First Lady Mrs Margaret Kenyatta who is currently visiting Japan.

The team that is featuring in the ongoing FIVB women’s World Cup, have since moved from Tokyo where the First Lady is scheduled to meet Kenyans living in Japan on Saturday.

The African champions are currently residing in Okayama City – an hour and a half’s flight from the capital city – where they have fixtures in the second round of the tournament.

ROLE MODEL

“It would really have made the whole squad happy if she came to visit us and even found time to watch one of our matches. She is a role model to all of us,” team captain Brackides Agala told Nairobi News in Okayama.

On the other hand, some Kenyans in Tokyo who spoke to Nairobi News said they were looking forward to the meeting with the First lady that had been organized by the Kenyan Embassy in Japan.

“We are very excited about it. An opportunity to meet the First Lady is something we are all looking forward to,” Anne Wairimu, a vehicle dealer, said.

The First Lady has already attended some official functions here, including the World Assembly for Women that was opened by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
