Volleyball star set to sign lucrative deal with top French club


National women’s volleyball team player Everlyne Makuto is on the verge of completing a lucrative move to France.

Christened “Mayweather” by her national team mates, the Kenya Prisons attacker has agreed terms with French top flight outfit Chamalieres, and is currently finalising arrangements to link up with her new teammates  in the coming days.

Makuto has signed a one-year contract with the club.

“I have already processed my Visa and I’m waiting for the air ticket. I’m excited at the new challenge and I can’t wait to get started,” Makuto, who has won all titles at national and continental level for club and country, said on Monday.

The development comes at a time the Lugulu High School alumnus has hit a rich vein of form. She has consistently starred for the African queens Kenya at the Africa Cup of Nations Championship, FIVB Grand Prix and Women’s Volleyball World Cup this year.

“We’ve allowed her go to Europe and receive some valuable experience for the next one year. I am certain she will come back with valuable tips,” Prisons team manager David Kilundo said.

Makuto joins national team captain Brackides Agala, Jane Wacu and Mercy Moim who have all moved to Europe in the last one year.
