Victor Abondo quits Gor Mahia amid interest from South African club


Midfileder Victor Abondo, also known as ‘Teargas’ has left premier league defending champions Gor Mahia.

This development was confirmed by coach Frank Nuttal on Sunday, in his pre-match interview in the crunch derby against AFC Leopards at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani.

He said: “We have lost 60 percent of our goals from last season. Olunga(Micheal), Kagere (Meddie) are not with us and now, Abondo was released by the club on Friday. I now have to work out new combinations to make is start scoring again,” said Nuttal.

Abondo is has set his sights to joining South African club Ajax Cape Town.

The 26 year-old was on trial with the PSL club for the better part of last month and was later reported to have impressed his prospective employers.

Abondo is both a versatile and experienced midfielder in the Kenya Premier League as well as a Kenyan international, having enjoyed spells at Sony Sugar, Tusker and Gor Mahia over the past half a decade.

He had his best spell under Nuttal at Gor Mahia last term, scoring 12 goals in total.
