Unbeaten Gor Mahia set to wrap title race
Gor Mahia stand on the cusp of history when they host Sony Sugar Wednesday evening at the Nyayo National Stadium, hopeful of wrapping up their quest for a record 15th Premier League title.
After a stormy run that has seen them go unbeaten in 25 matches, the Kenyan League giants will claim the title should they get a draw or a win.
A draw will haul their points tally to 64 points, effectively ending Ulinzi Stars’ slim mathematical chance of being crowned champions on goal difference.
The soldiers have an outside chance on 63 points in the event that they win all their remaining matches by huge margins and Gor lose all theirs, including today’s tie with Sony.
When Gor vice-skipper Musa Mohamed leads his team-mates out of the dug-out against Sony on Wednesday evening, they will be seeking to secure their place in the club’s history books.

The last time Gor won the gong for three successive years was 1983, 1984 and 1984.
It will be a special night for Mohamed, who – alongside skipper Jerim Onyango – have been the club’s longest serving players and winning the title for the third straight year will be considered a major feat.
Gor will however not find it easy against an improving Sony side. The sugarmillers, under caretaker coach Salim Babu, have been rising on the log and, in the wake of a morale boosting 2-0 win over Sofapaka at the Awendo Green Stadium, they are likely to trouble Gor.
“We have prepared well. It’s a big game. We will not leave empty handed. They are under pressure to seal the title. They will underrate us but we will give it our best shot,” said Babu.
For Sony, a Top Eight finish remains a realistic target, so there is every reason to go for the three points.
