U-20 rising star confident of Kenya’s chances in Nations Cup qualifiers

Kenyan youngster Richard Odanda is confident that the national Under 20 team will overcome Rwanda and progress to the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The two teams clash on Saturday in Kigali with the scores tied at 1-1 from the first leg encounter at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on April 1. On that occasion, Odanda scored Kenya’s lone goal.

In Kigali, Kenya require a win or atleast a high scoring draw as compared to the results in Machakos, to progress to the second round.

But Odanda, 17, says the team has what it takes to get past their opponents.

“From what we have seen and also experienced when we played against them, I’m certain we will eliminate them. There is nothing to fear,” he said.

ITALIAN EXPERIENCE

Laiser Hill alumnus has every reason to be confident having recently trained at top Italian clubs Inter Milan and Juventus.

“The coaches made us watch the video of how we played against Rwanda to help us correct our mistakes,” he told Nairobi News.

Regarding his Italian experience, the lad from Kibera said it was an honour to train with Inter Milan’s first team.

“The coaches over there said they will call me again and I’m waiting,” he said.

A date with the tournament’s defending champions Zambia await the aggregate winner of the match between Kenya and Rwanda.

The overall winner will then go through a final match against a yet to be determined opponent for a place in next year’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger.
