The day coach Nuttal almost walked out on Gor Mahia
Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttal threatened to skip the club’s final league match against Muhoroni Youth last weekend in protest over delay in payment of salary arrears , Nairobi News understands.
Nuttal eventually made it to the dugout in the match that Gor Mahia won 2-0 thanks to goals from Micheal Olunga and Ali “Teargas” Abondo.
The game coincided with the KPL trophy presentation for the league champions.
Sources close to the club say Nuttal and other members of the technical bench are owed salary arrears and match winning bonuses stretching back three months.
This development has understandably stretched the patience of Nuttal, who has become famous on the local football scene after leading the popular club to one of the most successive seasons in their history.
“Behind the scenes, he (Nuttal) is so disappointed with the way the club’s top management is handling the club. In fact only last week he confronted a senior official at the club and threatened not come for the Muhoroni game. The matter only settled when he was paid some of the accrued dues,” our source claimed.
Having finished the Kenyan Premier League season without losing any of the 30 matches, Nuttal and his colleagues at the club’s technical bench are on the verge of creating more history this term.
This will happen if they manage to add the KPL Top 8 and GOTV Shield trophy to an already bloated cabinet at the club.
Another of Gor Mahia’s technical bench member, goalkeeping coach Matthews Ottamax, has been vocal in the recent past over the delay in payment of salaries.
