Just hours after completing a big money move to Tanzanian league giants, Simba, Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma has paid glowing tribute to the fans of his former club Gor Mahia.

Sserunkuma joined Simba earlier this week, after a highly successful three year stint in Kenyan football.

“I have enjoyed two and a half years at Gor Mahia, but this is the right time to say goodbye. We have enjoyed some special moments and success together, and the fans have been very supportive towards me – especially during difficult times,” a statement by the player read in part.

The striker began his Kenyan sojourn with Nairobi City Stars (2012) before moving making a mid-season move to  Gor Mahia where he played an integral role in the club winning consecutive league titles in the past two seasons.

UNDERWENT MEDICAL

The Uganda Cranes international, whose picture while undergoing a medical was posted on the club’s official website on Wednesday, is now expected to link up with his new teammates at Msimbazi Street in Dar es Salaam immediately, in readiness for the ongoing Vodacom league fixtures.

At the same time, it has emerged that Gor Mahia failed in a last gasp bid to retain the services of the dreadlocked striker.

Sources privy to the happenings over the last week reveal the player was approached by the club moments after media reports linking him to Simba were published.

However, Gor Mahia never tabled an offer as the player had already committed to a reported Sh 3 million sign on fee, alongside a monthly salary of Sh 250,000 with the Tanzanian giants which is more than three times what the player earned at Gor Mahia (Sh 80,000).

At Simba, Sserunkuma will re-join his former strikepartner at Gor Mahia, Paul Mungai Kiongera.
