Simba, Yanga courting Kenyan international Paul Were

Paul Were is the latest Kenya international to be linked with a move to Tanzania’s Vodacom league.

The skillful left-footed winger is unattached since mutually agreeing to terminate his association with then South African top tier side AmaZulu in May.

Were, formerly at AFC Leopards and Tusker FC in the Kenyan Premier League, was on the verge of making a return to the competition, having agreed personal terms in Gor Mahia back in June.

The move however fell through after the both the player’s and the Kenyan Premier League champion’s representatives delayed in requesting for his International Transfer Certificate from Fifa.

DETAILS OF TRANSFER

This development – alongside the Harambee Stars player’s exploits during the 1-1 draw away to the Republic of Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June – has attracted the interest of Tanzanian giant clubs Simba SC and Yanga SC.

The player’s representatives have also reported interest from Congolese club AS Vita, an unnamed Rwanda club and in the Scandinavia.

“My representatives are working on the finer details of a transfer. My target is to be playing active football by the end of this month, and feature prominently for the national football team against Zambia (in the Nations Cup qualifier) next month,” Were told the Daily Nation Sport.

It is believed the player is holding out for an annual income of Sh 3 million, (an amount that is almost double the average salary of a footballer in Kenya), alongside other incentives, in his next move, an amount the Tanzanian clubs will break little sweat in forking out.
