Simba: Leopards are weak, Gor are good, but we are better

Tanzanian champions Simba are spoiling for a fight ahead of the SportPesa Super Cup in Nairobi with a ticket to play English Premier League side Everton at stake.

The Msimbazi street based side is one of the eight teams drawn from Tanzania, Kenya and Zanzibar that will compete in the week long-tournament from June 3 to June 10 in Nairobi.

The other teams in the competition are Simba’s arch rivals Yanga, Singida FC, Zanzibar champions Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) and Kenyan sides  Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Simba’s Communications Officer Sunday Haji said the team doesn’t ‘fear’ AFC Leopards or Gor Mahia.

STRONG TEAM

“I hope you know we are about to finish the entire season unbeaten. I have watched some Kenyan league matches on TV. Leopards are weak, I do not see any threat there. Gor Mahia are good, but we are better. I hope to face them in the final,” Haji said.

“We are bringing a strong team over there with intent to winning the tournament,” he added.

Simba’s travelling party, according to Haji, will include lethal Uganda international Emmanuel Okwi, his strike partner John Bocco, and attacker Shiza Kichuya, who has created 20 goals in the Tanzanian league this season.

Haji also said that the players will be allowed to share the prize money totalling Sh3 million if they triumph in the tournament’s second edition.

Simba were eliminated on post match penalties by Nakuru All Stars in the quarter finals of the inaugural edition of this tournament last year in Tanzania.
