Sacked coach claims Leopards players are ‘drunkards’ in explosive rant

Former AFC Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert now claims he had to contend with handling drunk players in training during his stint at the club.

In a series of explosive revelations on his seven-month stint at the popular Kenyan Premier League club which ended acrimoniously in September, the Belgian trainer also hinted that he was sabotaged by several administrators, and that players might have intentionally underperformed owing to the influence from “strange forces”.

The revelations were made via a lengthy rant on Facebook on Monday headlined ‘From Hero to Zero’.

“How can you tolerate a drunken player? How can a player decide not to fly with the team?” Minnaert posed, without mentioning names.

STRANGE FORCES

He added: “It’s time that you all put your heads together and think collectively. Is it not strange that every time that the team had a series of good results (month march and month July) strange forces come over the team to destroy all this work?”

Minnaert went ahead to outline his achievements while in charge of the team.

The Belgian is due to get Sh2.4 million ($24,000) as compensation for summary dismissal by the club, in the wake of a ruling by the Football Kenya Federation Tribunal ruling in November.

The former FC Djouliba and Rayon Sport coach has recently been linked with the vacant coaching role at Zambia champions Zesco United.
