Did Mo Farah ‘rob’ Kenyans of victory in London?
British track legend Mo Farah completely obliterated his Kenyan rivals on Friday night to win the 10,000m gold medal at the ongoing 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.
However, questions have been raised over his stupendous performance after he stepped off the track after taking a slight nudge on the home straight by the hard chasing Paul Tanui.
But the 34-year-old held on to comfortably win his third consecutive world title over the distance in a world leading time of 26:49.51. Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei (26:49.94) just did enough to beat Kenya’s Tanui (26:50.60) to the silver medal.
The other Kenyans in the race, Bedan Karoki and Geoffrey Kamworor, faded off to finish fourth and sixth in respective times of 26:52.12 and 26:57.77.
The Mo Farah incident was reminiscent of a similar one during last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil when Kenya’s Ezekiel Kemboi was stripped of his bronze medal for stepping on the in field in contravention of competition rules.
