Patch, Changez renew age-old rivalry
Age-old rivalries will be renewed on Saturday as the Changerians face off with arch rivals Patch. However, this time it will not be on the rugby pitch but instead the golf course.
Lenana School Old Boys association are hosting the Laibon Society Charity Golf Day at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Ngong Road.
The Old boys led by their chairman David Kabeberi seek to raise funds to aid the education of needy students and also repair dilapidated structures in the school.
Speaking to Nairobi News Mr Evans Vitisia, who will captain the Laibon side, said he was looking forward to a successful tournament and was elated that so many old boys were taking part in the tournament.
“We expect about 120 golfers in the tournament which has been growing in leaps and bounds. We managed to collect Sh222,000 in 2012. In 2013 the tournament was not held. Last year we broke the Sh1 million mark with a collection of Sh1.1 million. This year we are targeting not less than Sh1.5 million,” he said.
REUNIONS
Vitisia told Nairobi News that whenever Changez (Lenana) and Patch (Nairobi School) meet everyone should expect fireworks and that his team will triumph. He says the tournament will not only raise money for a noble cause but it will be a time for reunions.
The tournament that is open to Lenana School students, teachers, old boys and old boys from other schools teed off Friday morning and it will be followed later with an evening banquet that will feature the chairman’s goat and Koroga from 6:30pm.
Mr Kabeberi said since it is a charity event donations are welcome and can be made through M-Pesa paybill number 527200 under account golf while cheques are payable to The Laibon Society.
National Bank, Mitchel Cotts and NIC Bank are the tournaments main sponsors.
