My Christmas – Mercy Cherono: I’ll be relaxing at home

By EVELYNE MUSAMBI

Athlete Mercy Cherono will be spending her Christmas with family members at her home in Kipajit Village, Sotik, Bomet County.

The gorgeous queen of track who wowed many when she won gold in the women’s 5,000m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow says this will be the first time this year she is having quality time with her family.

“I have been training and participating in different races since the year started so this is the time I need to stay home with everyone else,” Cherono told Nairobi News.

The first born in a family of seven has been running since her high school days at Ngariet Secondary School.

She has started a foundation that is set to hold a charity event in Bomet County early next year.

“For now I still don’t have much details as to when and how the event will be but will keep updating you since I am doing the planning this festive season,” said the soft-spoken athlete.
