Mariga focused on return to fitness

Parma midfielder Mcdonald Mariga has refused to be drawn onto the negative vibe on his current club, instead insisting he is only focused on getting his old form back and playing regularly.

The Kenya international has managed a single league appearance out of a possible 14 this season, since making a return to the Stadio Ennio Tardini at the start of the current league campaign for his third stint.

This amid suggestions that his appearances in Roberto Donadoni’s first team have been restricted due to fitness concerns as a result of a recurrent injuries over the past two seasons.

“I am working very hard to get on form, and then from there, I hope to play regularly. The club believes in me and has invested so much in a fitness regime that I am currently following,” Mariga told Nairobi News.

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS

The former Real Socieadad and Inter Milan midfielder in the meantime refused to be drawn on the latest negative publicity revolving around the club’s finances, with reports suggesting all employees have not been paid their wages since September.

Parma FC was earlier this week deducted one point by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) due to its financial problems.

The club President Tommaso Ghiradi and the CEO were each also banned from football related activities for two months and fined about Sh 700,000.

Parma is currently bottom of the Serie A table thanks to a four-match losing run in the league that includes a 2-1 home defeat to Lazio on Sunday.
