Mariga attracts interest from Major League Soccer clubs

Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga could be headed to the USA. According to reports in sections of the Italian media, Mariga is attracting interest from Major League Soccer sides Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.

Indeed, it is understood representatives of Timbers recently flew to Europe in a bid to commence transfer negotiations with the Italian based star, who is currently turns out for second tier club US Latina Calcio.

A transfer to the United States could revitalise the Kenya international, who has turned out for top clubs in Sweden, Italy and Spain over the last decade, and won the 2010 Uefa Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010.

COMEBACK

A switch to the US will also link Mariga with another Kenya international David “Cheche” Ochieng who has rejoined North America Soccer League side, New York Cosmos.

Ochieng quit the second tier American club last summer, moments after it was announced that the outfit was flat broke. The central defender has, however, made a comeback, a move confirmed by the club coach Giovanni Savarese.

“The only players from last year’s squad already under contract are Kenyan international David Ochieng’ and US youth international Eric Calvillo and last year,” Saverese was quoted by the American media.
