Makwatta left clubless after being released by Zambian side

Kenyan striker Mark Makwatta’s 18-month stint in Zambia has reportedly ended after he was released by top flight league side Buildcon.

Nairobi News understands Makwatta has abruptly ended his stay at the Ndola based club after agreeing with his employer to tear up his two-year contract that only has three months to run.

“Yes, he is no longer part of the team and we wish him all the best in his career,” a source in Zambia said.

The former Ulinzi Stars forward, who was not available for comment, is understood to be in talks with an unnamed club in the Middle East, as well as top Ethiopian side Coffee.

TOP SCORER

The decision to let go off Makwatta does not, however, come as a surprise. Unlike his compatriot Jesse Were, who plays for cross town rivals Zesco United, Makwatta has struggled to settle in Zambia since joining the club in 2016.

Makwatta moved to Zambia after finishing as the top scorer in the Kenyan Premier League season with 16 goals.

This season he has hardly featured under coach Tennant ‘TC’ Chembo with Buildcon currently in eighth on the Zambia league standings.
