Leopards claw Ushuru, Sofapaka falter

AFC Leopards provisionally moved to third spot on the Kenyan Premier League table following a 1-0 victory over Ushuru on Saturday at the City Stadium.

The result, which was Leopards’ second win on the trot, increased Ingwe’s points tally to 31 from 18 matches.

Three days ago, the team rallied from behind to beat Kenya Commercial Bank 2-1 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Attacking midfielder Khalid Jumaan, now a key player in coach Zdravko Logarusic’s squad, scored the match winner against Ushuru with a glancing header from Bernard Mang’oli’s free kick in the 29th minute.

The league giants have experienced turbulence in recent times, what with the mass exodus of players and financial difficulties.

Logarusic kept faith in the bulk of the squad that impressed against KCB.

SOFAPAKA BEATEN

“Today, we created our chances and scored, but am still worried by the fitness levels, that is why I deployed five players in midfield. But am happy with the result,” Logarusic said after the match.

In an early kick off match at the same venue, Kenya Commercial Bank put up an assured performance to beat a poor Sofapaka 2-0.

It was one of Sofapaka’s worst displays this term and they were duly punished by KCB youngster, Chrispinus Onyango, who struck a barce.

Onyango, opened his account in the fifth minute with a rasping shot, before completing the job deep in stoppage time when he robbed Willis Ouma of the ball on the edge of the box and lobbed the poorly positioned Sofapaka custodian David Okello.

Before Onyango’s second goal, KCB missed a penalty as John Odhiambo struck the base of the upright from the spot.

In Muhoroni, hosts Muhoroni Youth threw away a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw with Nakuru All Stars. Abbas Akinyemi and Wycliffe Ochomo were on target for Muhoroni but goals from Lnamba Bebeto and Boniface Akenga salvaged a point for All Stars.
