KPL signs multi-million shillings sponsorship deal with SportPesa

The Kenyan Premier League has announced a multi-million shilling sponsorship deal with local betting firm SportPesa, that will see the latter becoming the competition’s official sponsors.

The value of the four and a half year deal was not disclosed during the announcement on Thursday in Nairobi but sources in the know intimated to Nairobi News that the parties agreed on Sh 80 million figure with a ten percent increment every year bringing the total figure over the entire duration of the contract to around Sh 360 million.

This far exceeds the previous sponsorship worth Sh 170 million from East Africa Breweries Limited that expired two months ago.

LEVEL OF SUCCESS

The arrangement takes effect immediately and will run until the end of the 2019 season.

“We warmly welcome SportPesa to KPL. The sponsorship will help maintain the level of success the league has enjoyed in the region,” KPL Chairman Ambrose Rachier said during the official announcement of the deal on Thursday.

SportPesa Chief executive Ronald Karauri said it was critical to manage resources pumped into sports efficiently.

“We should not be left behind because of loose sports management. Kenya has immense football talent which should be nurtured to create more employment opportunities,” he said.
