Kimanzi: I won’t comment on links to Harambee Stars job

Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi insists he will not comment on rumours linking him with the national football team job because ‘he doesn’t want to lose his current job’ as a result.

The Dutch trained coach has been touted as a replacement for Belgian trainer Paul Put, who quit the Harambee Stars role in a huff last week, three months after talking charge.

Kimanzi is enjoying an impressive start to this season’s league campaign with the slum boys.

He seems to be drawing lessons from the past.

“The last time I did something like that (commenting on speculation) was when I was at Sofapaka,” the respected coach recalled.

“They approached my chairman back then and I left the club. I left the project I was working on but I do not intend to do that this season,” the local coach was quoted by Ghetto Radio.

Should he eventually be considered, this will be Kimanzi’s third spell at the helm of the national team. In his first stint he is remembered for helping Stars ascend to their best ever posting on the FIFA rankings. That was way back in 2008.

Football Kenya Federation have in the meantime announced Stanley Okumbi as caretaker coach while promising that a new full time trainer will be unveiled to the public in the coming weeks.
