Surplus to requirement Innocent Wafula to part ways with Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia are set to release utility man Innocent Wafula at the end of this year, a move that marks the end of a glittering and at times controversial career for the player with the league champions.

On Thursday soka.co.ke quoted the club’s CEO Lordvick Aduda saying Wafula is surplus to requirement at the club at that his time at K’Ogalo is up.

“He is on a Bosman. His association with us ends in December. We have Philemon Otieno and Wellington Ochieng who can play at right back and even our new acquisition Pascal Ogweno can also slot in there so I think we are well covered,” Aduda said of the player who joined the club in 2015.

Besides impressing when called upon, Wafula never travelled with the side for international engagements in a move that elicited speculation over his true nationality amid rumours that is Ugandan.

The confusion ensued in 2015 when he appeared to decline a call up to the national team.

Wafula joins Burundian national Karim Niziyigimana as the latest player the club has released ahead of the 2018-2019 season’s kick off.
