Heartbreak as Wanyama’s Sh3.2 billion move to Spurs flops

Victor Wanyama’s proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur has fallen through, Nairobi News can exclusively reveal.

The Kenyan international, who has been with Southampton FC for the past two seasons, had set his heart to the London club.

But Southampton refused to budge, despite Tottenham placing in two offers, with the latest believed to be worth 20 million pounds (Ksh 3.2 billion) plus a season long loan deal for Argentine winger Eric Lamela.

Not even the player’s antics – of going on a self-imposed strike to engineer a move – could make the deal happen.

Southampton made the decision to hold onto the player after losing another midfielder Morgan Schneirdelen to Manchester United earlier this summer.

Wanyama will now wait for better luck in the next transfer window which officially opens in January.

The player is expected in Nairobi on Wednesday morning for national team duty.

Harambee Stars play Zambia in an African Nations Cup qualifier this weekend, followed by a high profile friendly against 2015 Nations Cup hosts Equatorial Guinea next Wednesday.
