Gor Mahia smelling title


Gor Mahia inched closer to winning the 2013  Tusker Premier League title after  beating Thika United 2-1 in a match played at the Thika Municipal Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Former Kakamega Homeboyz and Red Berets midfielder Eric Ochieng opened the score for the league leaders in the 18th minute.

A neat exchange of passes between Edwin Lavatsa and Kevin Omondi released the ball to the on running Ochieng  who beat Thika United custodian Luca Indeche with a low shot.

Diminutive Ugandan Striker Dan Sserenkuma doubled their lead in the 36th minute after a nice pass from the impressive Joseph Wanyonyi.

Sserenkuma has now scored in the past five matches in a underlining his importance to the club.

Thika United skipper Dennis Odhiambo pulled one back for Thika United from the spot in the 84th minute after Donald Mosoti fouled David Kingatua inside the box.

However Gor held on for the win and now need 4 points from their remaining four matches to end their 18 year wait for the title.

Gor is at the helm of the log with 50 points from 25 matches, 7 points more than second-placed Sofapaka who beat Chemelil Sugar by the same scoreline at the City Stadium.

Gor face Sofapaka next Wednesday at the  City Stadium in a top of the table clash.
