What is killing Gor Mahia fans?
Two Gor Mahia fans lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Sunday evening. According to sources within the club, the two – Jaqueline Achieng’ and Joseph Odhiambo – were travelling in a private car when they met their death along Jogoo Road in Nairobi at around 8pm on the stretch between City Stadium and Makongeni estate.
Gor Mahia fans are notorious for dangerous speeding and drunk driving to and from football matches.
The club fans are also infamous for boarding overcrowded buses and matatus as well as hanging dangerously on moving vehicles.
Sunday’s incident happened when the victims were returning home after watching their team’s barren draw against Ulinzi Stars in a Kenyan Premier League match earlier in the day at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.
“It is tragic and sad to lose such young Kenyans and moreso vibrant club fans who had sacrificed their time and travelled all the way to Nakuru to watch their team play,” club assistant secretary general Ronald Ngala told Nairobi News.
ROAD ACCIDENT
According to an ardent fan of the club, Jared Abongo aka Jaro Soja, the car the two were travelling in rammed into a lorry along the dual carriage highway.
“The badly damaged vehicle is at Makongeni Police Station. It is a huge loss. The departed are two of our ardent fans,” Jaro Soja said.
Incidentally, Achieng passed on just 18 months after her partner Roy Kohadha, also an ardent Gor Mahia fan, died in a road accident.
The bodies of the deceased are lying at Chiromo mortuary in Nairobi, as family and friends make funeral arrangements.
