Four students depart for Man Utd’s soccer clinic

Four students left the country on Tuesday afternoon to attend this year’s Airtel and Manchester United Soccer Clinic in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The clinic kicks-off on Wednesday and will run up to Sunday April 27.

The quartet, Gerald John Oketch from Upper Hill School, Lily Owuor Awuor of Olympic High School, Mwanahalima Adam Jereko from St John’s Kaloleni and Ibrahim Mohamed from Kathungi Secondary School were selected after vigorous process that began in January.

Former Harambee Stars Jacob Mulee was in charge of the four man team that went across all the 47 counties looking for talented boys and girls.

They eventually settled for the four who displayed excellent skill, discipline and team work during the trials.

They will join boys and girls from 12 other African countries for the one week clinic which will be conducted by coaches from English Premier League champions Manchester United.

At the end of the clinic, they will play friendly matches against the Tanzanian U 17  boys and girls teams.

The players will be accompanied to Tanzania with Upper Hill school football team coach Gilbert Walusimbi and John Musonye from Airtel.

The initiative is part of the partnership between the mobile company and the football club that will see the set-up of an ambitious soccer talent programme that will focus on identifying and nurturing budding soccer talent from the grassroots onto a national stage.
