Former Stars coach Adel Amrouche lands Botswana job

Former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche has been appointed the head coach of Botswana.

Amrouche will be in charge of the Southern African country’s senior men national team for three years and has been tasked with lifting the team’s fortunes.

Botswana managed only one draw from six matches in the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifying competition, a string of poor results which cost coach David Bright his job.

The 51-year-old Amrouche’s first assignment is a two-legged 2022 World Cup qualifier against Malawi set for September 2 and 10.

COURT CASE

The Belgian was in charge of Kenya in 2012-2013 and was credited with winning the 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Nairobi as well as masterminding that famous 1-1 draw against Nigeria in Calabar.

Amrouche is currently locked in a legal tussle with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over his dismissal. He is demanding Sh60 million in the case.

Amrouche has in the past also handled the national teams of Equatorial Guinea, Burundi and Libya.
