FKF elections may be postponed over Pope’s visit

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board could reschedule the dates for the forthcoming elections to accommodate Pope Francis’ visit to the country.

The Pope’s three day visit to Africa will begin in Nairobi on November 25, a day before the FKF sub – branch and branch elections.

The board is said to be seriously mulling at postponing the elections by at least four days.

Multiple sources within the ten-man board, chaired by Nairobi lawyer Donald Kipkorir, told Nairobi News that they consider the Papal visit as a period “of national interest”.

Catholic believers are expected to converge in Nairobi to celebrate a holy mass with Pope Francis at the University of Nairobi grounds.

“A sizeable chunk of Kenyans who will be engaged with the Pope are football stakeholders. Some would have participated in the election exercise. Besides we envisage a situation where the City will be crowded and the Police will have their hands full in terms of maintaining law and order,” our source said.

The FKF national elections, slated for December 10, will however go ahead as planned.
