FA Cup arrives in Nairobi for tour
Former England international David James argues that the Kenyan football league “is not producing enough” quality players.
James, 46, who is the Emirates FA Cup ambassador, is on an official trip to the country to promote the glittering trophy which is currently on an African tour.
He spoke to journalists in Nairobi on Thursday.
He featured for Liverpool and Manchester City in an English Premier League career spanning 12 year.
James also heaped praise on the quality of Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and another English Premier League player of Kenyan origin, Liverpool star Divock Origi.
“A player like Wanyama is top quality. He has all the attributes required in the English league.
“Then there is Origi with roots here in Kenya. He is a young, promising lad who will go places because he is under the management of some of the best coaches.”
James asked why Kenyan soccer was not producing enough quality players.
“Is it the training or pitch?” James posed.
Some Kenyan players in top leagues in the world, are Dennis Oliech (France), Macdonald Mariga (Italy) and Wanyama (England).
