Coach Minnaert fired by AFC Leopards for poor performance

AFC Leopards have sacked coach Ivan Minnaert for what the club termed as “continued undesirable results, serious and persistent misconduct” Nairobi News can exclusively reveal.

Minnaert was handed his termination letter, which was signed the club chairman Dan Mule, early on Thursday morning.

“The National Executive Committee having heard you and in view of the undesirable results that the team continues to post, we have been left with no alternative but to terminate your contract as per clause 7(b) and 7(c) of the employment contact signed by yourself as our head coach,” the letter reads in part.

“You are hereby relieved off your duties as head coach with immediate effect and are advised to hand over all the club’s property in your possession to the team manager,” the letter continues.

TROUBLED TIMES

The club’s hitherto assistant coach Ezekiel Akwana will take charge of the team until the end of the season.

This development brings to an end a troubled six-month relationship between the Belgian coach and the Kenyan Premier League club.

Minnaert, who has previously coached Rwandan club Rayon Sport, made a positive start at the helm of Ingwe during his opening games, including a hard fought 1-0 win over bitter rivals Gor Mahia.

But the situation took an abrupt turn for the worse in the second leg of the league season with the bespectacled trainer overseeing four winless league matches as well as an exit from the GOtv Shield knockout tournament.
