Coach Kamau ‘demoted’ at Posta Rangers


Barely six months after joining big spending Football Kenyan Premier League outfit Posta Rangers, coach John Kamau has been redeployed to a new work station effectively ending his association with the team.

Speaking to the Daily Nation Sport on Thursday, Posta Rangers boss John Tonui, made it clear that the coach has been redeployed to head the sports docket within the Postal Corporation’s Human Resources Department.

Kamau’s place in the dugout has been taken by his erstwhile deputy George Maina who guided the club to a runners up position in the GOtv Shield tournament last season.

Maina, a veteran in the trade, will be assisted by familiar faces in Pascal Ochieng and Edward Kauka with Lawrence Webo retained as the goalkeeper trainer.

“We have had challenges on the pitch and we felt we required an experienced coach to handle the team,” Tonui said.

TALENTED SQUAD

“Kamau had a lot of challenges with the playing unit so we have allocated him duties to handle in the office. He has been redeployed to the sports department within our Human Resources Department,” he added.

Kamau joined the club early this year from Thika United and steered the team to third spot on the 18-team league table on 29 points behind Kakamega Homeboyz and Zoo Kericho who are both on 34 points. They have won eight of their 15 matches, drawn five and lost two.

Sources within the team however claim that the decision to ‘demote’ Kamau was made after the coach “lost control of the dressing room”.

This resulted in the talented squad struggling in their league matches mid-way through the first leg leaving the management with no option but to ring changes.

Meanwhile, the team has beefed up its playing unit by signing three new players in Jerry Santos (Gor Mahia), Benedict Owuor (KCB) and Anthony Gathu (Kitengela Shooters).

The club is expected to sign two more players before the end of the week to boost their chances of winning the FKF Premier League title.
