SportPesa now seeks Museveni’s bailout to ease taxation woes in Kenya

The President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni has heaped praise on Kenyan gaming firm SportPesa, indicating their impending investment in the country “will empower the youth through football.”

The Head of State made the remarks when he met the firm’s top officials at State House Entebbe.

SportPesa’s flirtation with Uganda has raised speculation that the firm could cease its operations in Kenya, in the wake of a face-off with government over high tax rates.

Since the rollout of its operations in Kenya in 2014, SportPesa has since expanded its wings to Tanzania and the United Kingdom with relative success.

Currently, the firm boasts sponsorship relations with English sides Everton and Hull City, alongside top East African clubs AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia (Kenya), Simba SC and Yanga (Tanzania), all valued at billions of shillings.
