South African club Ajax Cape Town in talks with Ali Abondo

Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Ajax Cape Town, say they are in talks with Kenyan midfielder Victor Ali Abondo with a view of signing the midfielder.

Speaking exclusively to Nairobi News on phone on Wednesday morning the South African club’s Communications Officer, Julian Bailey, confirmed that the club’s technical bench was “monitoring” the player’s development.

“We are still speaking. Our technical team rates him highly and he could be coming back to finalise negotiations and probably sign for us,” Bailey said.

Abondo has missed competitive action since he made the decision to terminate his contract with Gor Mahia by mutual consent last February to pursue a lucrative deal in South Africa.

STRUGGLES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Earlier this week, there were reports that the former Tusker FC player was training with an amateur side in Nairobi, leading to speculation that the move to Cape Town had failed to materialize.

Abondo’s case is the latest of the well-documented struggles of Kenyan footballers in their bid to make the cut in South Africa.

In the recent past, Kenya internationals Paul Were, Kevin Omondi, Allan Wanga, Micheal Olunga and Dennis Odhiambo have either failed to settle or secure long term deals in the PSL.

Meanwhile, winger Kevin Kimani has recently completed a move to another PSL side Jomo Cosmos and the former Tusker player is due to make his league debut in a match against Bidvest Wits.
