Sonko’s ‘goat eating’ plot to unite city MPs
Nairobi MPs will be holding a meeting every month to discuss issues affecting various city residents.
The plan is to have them rotate venues in their homes where several goats will be slaughtered by the host MP.
The new plan engineered by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko kicks off on Wednesday and will be hosted by Lang’ata MP Joash Olum.
The goat eating meetings, Sonko said, are meant to harmonise the leaders so that they can forge a united front to bargain with the National Government.
Both Cord and Jubilee MPs will be attending the meetings.
“MPs from both sides have been spoken to. We have realised our unity is key for each to achieve their own political promises,” Mr Mbuvi told NairobiNews.
A cross section of MPs held a closed door meeting at Mr Sonko’s office on Wednesday where objectives of the goat eating meetings were thrashed out.
Among those who attended the meeting are Mr Olum, Kibra’s Kenneth Okoth, Embakasi’s West’s George Theuri, and Ruaraka’s Tom Kajwang.
However, some TNA MPs expressed reservations about the new unity deal saying it did not look genuine.
“I know they (City MPs) met but I cannot attend such a meeting. People want to use others for some undisclosed motives. I do not believe the meetings will help Nairobi as they are making us believe, said Embakasi North MP Mwangi Gakuya.
Mr Gakuya said he will not attend any of the meetings.
But his Kasarani counterpart Njoroge Chege said the unity bid was welcome although they always meet on a need basis.
“We have been meeting informally. It is not a new thing as such but if they start to do formal meetings, we shall consider whether to attend or not after invitation,” said Chege.
