Sonko’s appeal on abortion as 19th body of infant is retrieved from Nairobi River

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has appealed to city women to stop procuring abortions, but rather give birth then give him the babies so that he can take care of them.

Sonko, made the remarks on Friday after a body of an infant was retrieved from Nairobi River at Kware area.

This brings the total number of bodies retrieved from the river to 24. These include 19 infants and five adults.

The body was discovered by Sonko Rescue Team during their usual clean-up of the river.

“Our Mothers and Sisters stop killing innocent babies instead of aborting just bring those angels of God to me and we will take good care of them in various children’s homes we financially support around the city,” Mr Sonko said.

Sonko’s, director of communication, Elkana Jacob, says that the case has been reported at Kware police station under OB number 6/10/7/2020.

Nairobi County Government launched the clean-up exercise last year in a bid to transform the city.

The Nairobi River has over the years turned into a sewer following the discharge of waste from factories into the river and its tributaries.
