Sonko yet to deliver on air tickets, club officials

AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia have denied reports claiming that they have been issued with air tickets by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko ahead of their continental matches set for this weekend.

Officials of the two clubs say they have not received anything from the Nairobi Senator.

“We have not received anything, we are looking at our on ways of raising funds for the team,” said AFC Leopards chairman Allan Kasavuli.

K’Ogalo secretary general Chris Omondi also told Nairobi news that the club had not received anything from Senator Sonko.

“We met Sonko sometime back and he promised to pay the air tickets. To date he has not gotten back to us,” Mr Omondi said on phone.

AFC Leopards are set to jet out on Thursday morning for South Africa where they will play against Supersport United on Saturday in the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

League champions Gor Mahia on the other hand, will be at home for their first leg CAF Champions league tie against Tunisian side Esperance.

AFC Leopards were dealt a blow following revelations that their talismanic striker Allan Wanga could fail to travel with the team due to injury.

Wanga scored both goals in Ingwe’s 2-1 away win over Ethiopian side Defence during the last round.

Gor are also sweating on the fitness of skipper and goal keeper Jeremy Onyango who sat out training on Wednesday due to an injury.
