Sonko: I will sack any county official found engaging in corruption

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has vowed to deal decisively with individuals in his Nairobi City County government found engaging in corrupt practices.

Sonko has warned that any county government official who will be found engaging in graft or misuse of public funds will be immediately shown the door.

The city county boss was speaking after holding a cabinet meeting at City Hall on Wednesday, where he vowed to steer his government away from corruption cases unlike past county administrations.

“I don’t want to hear about corruption cases in my administration. Our main goal should be service delivery to Mwananchi as we promised during the last election,” said Sonko.

This comes as the national government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has been spearheading a purge on graft, with many public officials currently facing corruption related charges.

Sonko has at the same time assented to the Nairobi City County Outdoor Advertising and Signage Control and Regulation Bill 2018.

The new law is aimed at bringing order to the industry which is Nairobi County’s fifth largest source of revenue, raking in at least Sh700 million each year.
