Sonko opens secretariat within Nairobi’s CBD

Nairobi’s gubernatorial candidate Mike Mbuvi Sonko has opened up a new secretariat within the capital’s CBD, a move that intensifies his efforts to unseat incumbent Evans Kidero come August.

Nairobi News has established that Sonko has for the past few weeks been holding most of his political operations from a suite of one luxury hotel located next to the University of Nairobi.

Word has it that the popular city politician has transformed the whole floor of the hotel into offices, and has moved about a dozen of his staff, including the media team, bloggers and support staff to the new address.

The huge delegations visiting him is really stretching the hotel’s parking lot with dozens of vehicles seen spilling over at the main highway outside the hotel.

GUBERNATORIAL RACE

“He hosts a lot of political delegations and strategy meetings there. But that isn’t his main secretariat,” a source explained.

Word also has it that the outgoing Nairobi Senator is all to keen to work on an understanding with several independent candidates in the city.

His strategy has always been to convince them to either step down for his Jubilee Party candidate, or work together with them in a bid to help President Uhuru Kenyatta’s bid.

Sonko is considered Kidero’s main rival in the race for Nairobi’s next Governor, in a contest that also includes Miguna Miguna and Peter Kenneth are also in the race.

Over the weekend, Sonko facilitated the trip for hundreds of football fans to Tanzania, to watch the highly billed Mashemeji derby between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia from the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
