Sonko faults Governor Kidero’s style

Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has accused the governor of using a one man approach to run the county.

He said Dr Evans Kidero never consulted him when making the decision to increase the parking charges and levies by car hire and PSV owners.

“Despite the resolution having been made much earlier and even implemented, I was only informed through a letter on Thursday,” said Sonko.

He added that all leaders should be involved in projects that affect Nairobi county residents.

He also faulted the governor for going against the County Assembly’s resolution which had passed that the new rates were to be adjusted by only 20 per cent.

“Dr Kidero has instead decided to increase the rates by 200 per cent. This is oppressing the voters and I want to say that I will always stand by the people who elected us,” said Mr Sonko.

He added that he fully supported Dr Kidero’s efforts to decongest the city but said due process must be followed.

“I am of the opinion that if the county government wants to raise revenue, let it ask for money from Treasury. Raising funds should not be done by punishing the people who voted the same government into office,” the Senator said.
