Sonko denies meddling on disputed land
Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has been accused of frustrating the construction of a multi-million shilling project on a land whose ownership he is contesting.
Through lawyer Nyangau Masore, Tranquility Development Ltd said despite a court order allowing the construction of go-downs on a land it had purchased from the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Mr “Sonko” had resorted to intimidating the contractor.
“Some of the construction workers don’t come to work citing intimidation from the senator,” said lawyer Masore.
Public property
The firm and Mr “Sonko” through their lawyers have filed separate applications before the Land and Environment court Judge Pauline Nyamweya.
Tranquility is opposing an application seeking to stop them from further construction while the senator wants them stopped on grounds that the land is a public property which is not being utilised for its intended purpose.
Tranquility lawyers have asked the court to grant an early ruling date on the applications to end the anxiety and tension being created can be addressed.
Mr “Sonko” through his lawyer Wahome Mwangi, has refuted the intimidation claims and asked the court to subject Tranquility to strict proof.
