Sonko begs Jambo Pay to sign ‘improved’ contract’ in last minute plea

Governor Mike Sono has dispatched an ‘improved contract’ to Jambo Pay, the firm that provides automated revenue collection services to City Hall.

The current contract expires on Sunday midnight and Jambo Pay has repeatedly stated it is not interest in renewing the contract and will shut down the eJijiPay platform.

A financial crisis is expected to hit City Hall from Monday as residents will have no platform to pay levies including daily parking fees.

Web Tribe chief executive Danson Muchemi, whose company runs the eJijiPay platform,  has told Nairobi News that they received a request for extension of the contract on Saturday.

“We are reviewing the request then we shall determine if we are considering the extension or not,” he said.

City Hall could lose up to Sh100 million every day if the platform is shutdown.

In January, Muchemi said that they are ready to hand over its system to City Hall, ahead of the expiry of their contract while recommending the setting up of a joint transition team, that shall oversee the handover, expressing their readiness to facilitate the process.
