Solly Mahlangu: I’m a rape child

By JOHN MUCHIRI December 31st, 2014 2 min read

Popular South African pastor and singer Solly Mahlangu has revealed to his Kenyans fans private details of his conception and birth.

Solly, who jetted into the country on Tuesday night to headline the gospel concert Groove Party slated for Wednesday night at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani, said his mother was raped at the age of 14.

The concert will usher in the New Year.

“I’m a rape child…I have never met my father, but through believing in God, prayer and education, I have been able to travel all over the world to preach and sing to the world,” he told Nairobi News in an exclusive interview.

ROLE MODELS

“I’m a married man with two daughters, one called Amani and the other Asante.”

He also said that adults need to be good role models.

Having gone through a rough background as a child, he now believes that Africa is destined to take over the world but only if we rise up and educate children.

Speaking to Nairobi News in an interview Wednesday morning, Solly said the biggest honour will be to perform alongside Kenya’s biggest names in the Kenya gospel music industry.

“Just sharing a stage with people like Size 8, Bahati, DK, Willy Paul, among others, is a great honour for me,” he said.

The 43-year-old, popular for his hit songs ‘Obrigado’ and ‘Siyabonga Jesu’, says that he had many plans to perform in Kenya which have not worked.

GOD’S TIME

“For me to be here, I believe this is God’s time,” he said.

Solly said he has had a long history with Kenya and Swahili language, since he has songs in Swahili like ‘Mwamba Mwamba’, ‘Sifu Bwana’, among others, in his new album.

“That’s how well I’m connected with Kenya,” he said.

The Groove Party on Wednesday night will be a star-studded one with several other Kenyan artistes performing.

Top DJs who will be at the event include DJ Mo, DJ Sadic, DJ Krowbar, DJ Sanch, among others.

The show starts at 6 pm.
