Sofapaka’s title hopes dented
Sofapaka dropped two as they drew 2-2 with visiting Muhoroni Youth in a Kenyan Premier League match in Machakos.
At the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Chemelil Sugar recorded their first win in four matches, a morale boosting 1-0 win over Nakuru All Stars ahead of their next match against AFC Leopards.
Sony Sugar and KCB played to a barren draw in the only match staged in Nairobi.
On Friday, ten time champions Tusker slumped to a 1-0 loss to Nairobi City Stars, a result that effectively extinguished their title hopes.
The brewers suffered a setback in the first half of the match when goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng saw red for handling the ball outside his designated area and he was replaced by former AFC Leopards custodian Martin Musalia.
City Stars’ Gambian striker Ebrimma Sanneh scored the match winner three minutes afterwards.
DISAPPOINTING RESULT
In Machakos, Felly Mulumba scored his first goal of the season to add onto John Baraza’s first half goal, but Muhoroni responded with goals from George Mandela and Francis Ochola.
“This is a very disappointing result because we conceded a goal at the very last minute. Now we are out of the race for the title but we will give our best until the end of the season,” Sofapaka coach Sam Timbe said.
In Kisumu, defender Samuel Olwande scored from the spot to condemn basement side Nakuru All Stars to their 13th loss of the season.
The Nakuru based side had a chance to level the score just before half time when Bonface Akenga hit the woodwork from Patrick Oboya’s killer pass.
The win was a major boost for Chemelil who have been struggling to stay in the safety zone after a four-match winless streak.
