Sociedad, Betis, Girona all jostling to sign Olunga

Spanish La Liga sides Real Sociedad and Real Betis have been reported to be lining up bids to sign Kenyan international Michael Olunga who is currently on loan at Girona from his Chinese club Guizhou Zhichen.

Nairobi News has been reliably informed that the three Spanish top division teams have contacted the player’s representatives with a view of negotiating a transfer.

As a result, the 24-year-old remained in Spain this week after the conclusion of the Spanish league season last weekend in a bid to secure his future in La Liga.

The Kenyan forward has also requested to be excused from the international friendlies against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on Friday and Monday respectively.

MEMORABLE HAT TRICK

“He (Olunga) needs to know if he will be clearing his locker (at Girona) or otherwise. It is in his best interest to know about what will happen next before he plans his holiday. If it means heading back to China, then he will have to start processing his travel documents,” a source privy to the matter told Nairobi News.

The former Gor Mahia forward managed three league goals in eleven appearances for the La Liga debutantes this season. Most notable is the hat-trick he scored in Girona’s 6-0 win over Las Palmas in the Spanish League on January 13, 2018.

This despite playing a bit part role and Olunga seems to have done enough to impress these three teams to permanently acquire his services.

As things stand, Zhichen are said to be ready to do business with any club that will meet their Sh700 million valuation of the player.

Olunga is also demanding for atleast parity in his current Sh13 million monthly salary.

Girona had a memorable debut season in the Spanish top division finishing tenth, four places behind Betis and two ahead of Sociedad.
